A state trooper was on his way to a reported crash in Sauk County when a deer ran into the road in front of him, authorities said. The deer hit the vehicle, police said, and the trooper lost control. The vehicle flipped several times, authorities said, pinning the trooper inside. Emergency personnel had to extricate him from his vehicle.

He was initially taken to a hospital in Portage, Wis., but was transferred to a hospital in Madison, Wis., by helicopter. Authorities said he suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the accident. He was wearing his seat belt, police said.
