Database being created to track down problematic roadways in Wisconsin

The traffic operations and safety laboratory of the University of Wisconsin and local news website Channel3000 are working together to craft an interactive map that aims to highlight the sites of motor vehicle accidents in the state.

TOPS program manager Steven Parker said the rationale for creating the map is to come up with a database that will serve as a monitor to track down areas in Wisconsin roadways that need improvement, and to provide “a public service and education piece.”

Parker added that the map can act as a piece of interactive technology, providing a public forum where people can talk with transportation professionals to solve traffic safety problems together. This encourages public involvement.
