Chrysler announces recall of police cruisers

Posted on February 16th, 2012 No Comments

Chrysler Group, LLC is recalling nearly 10,000 2011-2012 Dodge Charger models made for law enforcement use.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, overheating problems could cause problems in the vehicles’ low beam headlights and anti-lock breaks. Overheating in the bulb harness connector could lead to problems in the headlights, and overheating in the power distribution module could cause the anti-lock breaks and electronic stability control to lose function.

Chrysler will replace the headlamp jumper harnesses and move the anti-lock break and electronic stability control fuse to fix the problem. All repairs will be made free of charge starting next month.

Toyota and Lexus recall thousands

Posted on November 15th, 2011 No Comments

Six Toyota and Lexus models are being recalled, Toyota Motor Corporation announced last week. A total of 550,000 vehicles worldwide are affected.

Of the Toyota models involved, the 2004 Avalon; 2004-2005 Camry; and the 2006 Highlander HV are being recalled. Lexus brands include the 2004-2005 ES330 and the RX330 as well as the 2006 RX400h. A malfunction in the power steering pump, if not repaired, could cause turning the steering wheel very difficult.

This is the third recall Toyota has issued this year. Two recalls in January and February affected a combined 3.87 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles. The Japanese car maker has suffered financially as U.S. drivers become weary. It currently faces several damage lawsuits and saw an 18.5% plunge in profits from July-September.

Several models affected in auto recall

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has reported that roughly 311,000 2009-2011 Honda Pilots and more than 500,000 Subaru vehicles are being recalled.

A seatbelt malfunction, which could cause the seatbelt to disconnect from the anchor webbing, in the Pilots is the reason why Honda is recalling the vehicles, which have been sold nationwide. The automaker reported that they found the stitching to be incomplete or missing and, in case of an accident, could cause the seatbelts across the lap to be disconnected and potentially increase the risk of injuries.

Nearly 200,000 2010-2011 Subaru Legacies and Outbacks are being recalled for a wiper motor malfunction that could potentially become a fire hazard. Almost 300,000 2003-2008 Foresters, 2002-2007 Imprezas, and 2005-2006 Saab 9-2xes are being recalled after drivers reported the front arm controls became corroded and broke. This could cause the cars to become difficult to control. No injuries or accidents have been reported due to the recall.

Chrysler refuses to recall 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees

Posted on June 15th, 2011 No Comments

After a recall of 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees was demanded by the Center for Auto Safety due to safety concerns, Chrysler has stated that they will not be recalling the vehicle because it poses no more risks than vehicles of similar designs.

The Center for Auto Safety demanded a recall of the vehicle because it says that the Jeep’s design poses significant safety hazards during rear-end crashes. The Jeep’s fuel tank is located by its rear axle and has been shown to rupture during rear-end crashes, causing the vehicle to catch on fire. In the past eleven years, 55 people have died in a rear-end accident where fire was a signficant cause of the death.

Chrysler changed the position of the fuel tank in 2005, moving it to the front. The company said that this change was made to increase cargo space and not for safety reasons. The NHTSA is currently investigating the Center for Auto Safety’s claims about the safety of the vehicle.

Rental Companies Rent Out Recalled Cars

Posted on February 28th, 2011 No Comments

In a recent survey conducted by federal regulators of safety, it was discovered that several popular rental car companies do not repair their cars that have been recalled. It was reported that fewer than a third of recalled rental cars are fixed within the first month of the recall, and only half are repaired within a year.

The safety regulators estimated that tens of thousands of drivers using rental cars have unknowingly been driving recalled cars. In one tragic story, two sisters rented a vehicle that had been recalled due to a power steering liquid leak that was shown to cause fires. Their rental car caught fire underneath the hood, causing the girls to hit a semi-truck. Both girls died immediately.

Defective vehicles are extremely dangerous, and anyone who has one should take every measure to quickly get it repaired. If you or someone you love has suffered injuries due to an automotive defect, please contact the Waukesha auto defect lawyers of Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ® at 800-242-2874.
