Program requires ignition interlock devices for repeat DUI offenders

Posted on July 1st, 2010 No Comments

According to a report released by the Wisconsin State Patrol, repeat drunk-driving offenders may be required to install ignition-interlock devices on their vehicles to prevent them from driving if they have consumed alcohol. The program will require repeat offenders to pay for the installation and the monitoring of the device.

Persons who have an ignition interlock device installed in their vehicle are typically required to blow into the device before the car will start. The driver may also be required to blow into the device while driving, and will gradually bring the vehicle to a stop if alcohol is detected.

Police warn about deer

Posted on May 27th, 2010 No Comments

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation issued a warning today that asked drivers to be vigilant for the month of June, especially watching out for deer on the road.

According to police, 16,338 crashes occurred in 2009 between deer and vehicles in Wisconsin alone. Dane County reported 873 crashes within its borders. Although lower, Waukesha County reported 680 crashes. The third most frequent deer-vehicle crashing county, Shawano County, reported that its 648 crashes accounted for over half of all vehicle crashes in the county.

Motorcyclists need to be especially careful, as these crashes can prove fatal without the full bulk of a car or truck to protect the driver or passengers.

Law enforcement officials offered safety tips for motorists. They noted that deer are most active in the early morning and in the evening. Deer seldom travel alone, and if one is spotted, it is likely that another is nearby.  Deer will not move solely because of head lights. If a deer is on the side of the road, slow down and blare the car horn with one long blast.

If you or someone you know has been injured while on the road, you may be eligible for compensation for your damages. Contact Habush, Habush & Rottier, S.C., the Waukesha road defect lawyers, by calling 800-242-2874.
