Police warn about deer

Posted on May 27th, 2010 No Comments

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation issued a warning today that asked drivers to be vigilant for the month of June, especially watching out for deer on the road.

According to police, 16,338 crashes occurred in 2009 between deer and vehicles in Wisconsin alone. Dane County reported 873 crashes within its borders. Although lower, Waukesha County reported 680 crashes. The third most frequent deer-vehicle crashing county, Shawano County, reported that its 648 crashes accounted for over half of all vehicle crashes in the county.

Motorcyclists need to be especially careful, as these crashes can prove fatal without the full bulk of a car or truck to protect the driver or passengers.

Law enforcement officials offered safety tips for motorists. They noted that deer are most active in the early morning and in the evening. Deer seldom travel alone, and if one is spotted, it is likely that another is nearby.  Deer will not move solely because of head lights. If a deer is on the side of the road, slow down and blare the car horn with one long blast.

If you or someone you know has been injured while on the road, you may be eligible for compensation for your damages. Contact Habush, Habush & Rottier, S.C., the Waukesha road defect lawyers, by calling 800-242-2874.

LED Traffic Lights Have Winter Problems

Posted on December 16th, 2009 No Comments

Many traffic lights across the state were recently installed with LED lights.  The LED lights have many benefits over incandescent lights.  The most important of benefits is the ability to reduce energy consumption and save money.  The reduced energy consumption of the new lights have produced a side effect that is having many officials scrambling to find a solution.

The problem is that ice and snow are beginning to build up on these lights.  This was never an issue with incandescent bulbs as incandescent bulbs give off a lot of heat as a part of its inefficient energy use. The snow would normally melt,  however the new LED lights do not give enough heat to melt the snow.  Officials have stated that they are attempting to find a solution to this problem as soon as possible.

Program Launched to Reduce Number of Accidents

Posted on December 10th, 2009 No Comments

Police and other law enforcement organizations across the state are taking part in a program that aims to reduce the number of serious traffic accidents from occurring.  The program titled ‘Booze and Belts’ will attempt to increase enforcement and awareness of the issues surrounding drunken driving and seatbelt use.  These two issues are the main cause of serious accidents that occur on the roads.

Drunken driving is a major form of preventable accidents, and seatbelts are a major way to prevent deaths.

The program hopes to raise awareness and save lives of Wisconsin residents.
