Two people were seriously injured in a vehicle collision on Lake Five Road.  The collision occurred when a 66-year-old Whitefish Bay woman who was traveling southbound ran a stop sign and crashed into a truck that was moving through an intersection.  The accident has encouraged officials to make a no passing zone near the entrance of the Libson Community Park on Lake Five Road.

Both of the crash victims were transported to a Milwaukee hospital where they were treated for serious injuries.  Authorities say that both people involved in the crash are expected to survive.  Officials also add that they have had many recent complaints about vehicles speeding through town and they intend to discuss these matters to see what else can be done to protect Wisconsin drivers.

Police warn about deer

Posted on May 27th, 2010 No Comments

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation issued a warning today that asked drivers to be vigilant for the month of June, especially watching out for deer on the road.

According to police, 16,338 crashes occurred in 2009 between deer and vehicles in Wisconsin alone. Dane County reported 873 crashes within its borders. Although lower, Waukesha County reported 680 crashes. The third most frequent deer-vehicle crashing county, Shawano County, reported that its 648 crashes accounted for over half of all vehicle crashes in the county.

Motorcyclists need to be especially careful, as these crashes can prove fatal without the full bulk of a car or truck to protect the driver or passengers.

Law enforcement officials offered safety tips for motorists. They noted that deer are most active in the early morning and in the evening. Deer seldom travel alone, and if one is spotted, it is likely that another is nearby.  Deer will not move solely because of head lights. If a deer is on the side of the road, slow down and blare the car horn with one long blast.

If you or someone you know has been injured while on the road, you may be eligible for compensation for your damages. Contact Habush, Habush & Rottier, S.C., the Waukesha road defect lawyers, by calling 800-242-2874.

Reported just after 3:30 in the afternoon, the incident occurred at the intersection of State Highway 74 and Lindsay Road in Pewaukee, Wis. A 79 year-old woman and 83 year-old man were traveling in a van, going west on Lindsay Road, when they were struck by a southbound delivery truck, which was driven by a 53 year-old man. According to the police reports, the 83 year-old man, driver of the truck, and driver of the car were all taken to nearby hospitals, while the accident claimed the life of the 79 year-old woman. The woman, 19 years-old, is in critical condition, and a girl of 6 months is in serious condition. The third passenger, a 1 year-old boy, also sustained injuries in the crash.

A 6-year-old girl was hit and injured by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon when she was walking home from Converse Elementary School in Beloit, Wis., authorities said. Police said the second-grader was crossing an intersection when a sport utility vehicle struck her. Reports say she sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Several people blame the school district for not providing safer routes, since there is no sidewalk near the school, and students must walk on the road or in the ditch to get to school. The school is also considering placing a crossing guard near the campus to prevent another pedestrian accident.

Officials remind public about car safety rules

Posted on April 5th, 2010 No Comments

Officials are asking the public to remember car safety rules after two runaway car incidents this week. In the past week, both a toddler and a dog drove away in vehicles left unattended. Authorities say these things are easily preventable.

Officials say that running vehicles should never be left unattended, especially if someone is inside the vehicle, and leaving anyone in a vehicle can be dangerous as temperatures climb. They also said an idling vehicle is an easy target for theft. Crashes and other accidents in these situations happen more frequently than people suppose, authorities said.
