Officials are asking the public to remember car safety rules after two runaway car incidents this week. In the past week, both a toddler and a dog drove away in vehicles left unattended. Authorities say these things are easily preventable.
Officials say that running vehicles should never be left unattended, especially if someone is inside the vehicle, and leaving anyone in a vehicle can be dangerous as temperatures climb. They also said an idling vehicle is an easy target for theft. Crashes and other accidents in these situations happen more frequently than people suppose, authorities said.

City crews have begun installing new energy-efficient LED streetlights in Waukesha, Wis. to reduce its energy bill. New lights were installed last week, but they were soon taken down, the city’s director of public works said. They used induction technology, which is essentially fluorescent lighting without electrodes or filaments, but they didn’t emit enough light, he said.
The city hopes to save $250,o00 dollars with this project. Officials must find lighting that will sufficiently light the road, though, or accidents will increase. Waukesha roads must be safe for driving. Accidents could be caused by poor lighting and low visibility.
