Technology Used to Reduce Reckless Driving

A Wisconsin insurance company has started a Teen Safe Driver Program, in which they will install cameras inside the vehicles of teenagers. The cameras can record areas inside and outside of the vehicle and will save recordings of reckless driving, such as slamming on brakes or swerving. Parents can then view the recordings online.

Another technological addition to automobiles will record information leading up to, during, and following a crash. This device, required by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, will be mandatory by 2013 in all newly manufactured vehicles.

Other devices that have been created can detect speeding and verbally tell drivers to slow down. Technology such as this has the potential to significantly decrease car accidents caused by reckless driving.
