An 11 year-old Wisconsin Rapids boy was taken to Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield Monday night after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle. The accident occurred at the intersection of West Grand Avenue and West Riverview Expressway.

According to the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department accident report, the 11 year-old entered the crosswalk despite having the red light. He crossed the two southbound lanes before being hit by a car in the northbound lanes. The 79 year-old driver who hit him says he did not see the boy coming.

The bicyclist was taken to the hospital in serious condition. The driver is not expected to face charges.
