Driver charged in distracted driving death

A Sun Prairie woman has been convicted of homicide by negligent driving after she killed a 21 year-old University of Wisconsin-Madison student while she was on her phone. The man was killed in 2010 when she struck him on East Johnson Street while he stood by his disabled car.

The jury found her guilty of texting at the time of the fatal accident. The woman, also 21 years-old, allegedly was so distracted that she did not notice the man strike her hood and windshield and then fall beneath her minivan.

The driver will be sentenced in two months. Until her court date, she will be free on signature bond, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
