Texting driver pleads no contest

A 23 year-old driver that caused a fatal car crash while he was texting pleaded no contest this week to charges of second degree reckless homicide in relation to the death of a 32 year-old man. The deadly accident occurred in December 2010 near the intersection of Highway 73 and Highway Z.

The driver admitted to authorities that he received many text messages that day and was looking at his phone when he ran a stop sign and drove into oncoming traffic. He hit two vehicles. The 32 year-old driver of the other car was ejected and died at the scene.

The distracted driver faces a maximum of 25 years behind bars and a $100,000 fine.
