Drunk driver causes single-car accident, injuring passenger

42-year-old Robert Burda was charged with driving while intoxicated for the fourth time on Friday, October 11 for causing a crash in Nelson, Wisconsin.

According to police, a combination of speed and his drunkenness caused Burda to crash his car along County Highway D near the intersection of County Highway I.

A 16-year-old female passenger was thrown out of the car during the single-car accident and was airlifted to a hospital in Eau Claire for treatment of her life-threatening injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt.

The other two passengers, both 18-year-olds, were wearing their seat belts and were not hurt during the crash.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol are still investigating the circumstances that led to the accident.
