Fond du Lac police officer charged for fatal car accident

Deputy Ryan Flood, 32, of the Fon du Lac Sheriff’s Office appeared in court on Monday, March 31 to await charges relating to a 2012 crash that killed Matthew Koenigs, 20.

The accident occurred on August 24, 2012 when Flood was responding to a hit-and-run call. While driving to the scene of the accident, he hit Koenigs’s car. The impact instantly killed him.

Flood received a fine of $326.50 for failing to operate an emergency safely and a fine of $225.70 for speeding. Additionally, he was ordered to pay around $14,000 in restitution for the Koenigs family and will perform community service by helping train civilians on Emergency Vehicle Operation and Control.
